Gaudí Star LED

Lighting up Gaudí's star: a success story on Passeig de Gràcia

Passeig de Gràcia has welcomed Christmas 2025 with a monumental installation that has already become one of Barcelona's festive icons: a 12-meter Christmas tree crowned by the Gaudí LED Star , inspired by the one that crowns the tower of the Virgin Mary at the Sagrada Família.

A luminous and symbolic piece that pays homage to the architect's legacy on the eve of the Gaudí Year 2026.

Behind this project is DEIN Interdecor , , a company dedicated to the marketing, development, and manufacturing of products for Christmas decorations and seasonal events in indoor and outdoor spaces. At LCE, we had the opportunity to participate in this project by supplying the LED technology that brings the star to life, in collaboration with Optoga .

An emblematic project for Christmas in Barcelona

The new tree installed in the Jardinets de Salvador Espriu is part of a joint initiative between the Associació del Passeig de Gràcia and CASA SEAT. Its aim: to merge tradition, creativity, and culture, transforming one of the city's main thoroughfares into a festive space brimming with identity.
The star that crowns the tree, measuring 2.5 meters from tip to tip,  is a direct nod to Modernism and the work of Gaudí. Its polyhedral design and volume make it the focal point, visible from various points along the promenade.

DEIN Interdecor: design and development of great ideas

For DEIN, the commission presented a challenge both creatively and technically.

As the L&D Lights team (the company's architectural lighting division) explains, the star presented several structural and lighting challenges:

– The piece is composed of 12 regular pentagons , although ultimately 11 pyramids were built to ensure a solid and secure base.
– Each face is made of high-density polymer , a material with excellent light transmittance and great stability.

–  The dimensions and weight demanded a strong yet lightweight internal structure.
– The lighting had to be warm, homogeneous, and visible from all angles of the Paseo.

A complex project that combines geometry, engineering, and light sensitivity in a large-format piece.

The solution: Optoga LED modules

Illuminating a volumetric piece like this, with triangular faces converging into sharp points, required an LED solution capable of providing warm, homogeneous light across all surfaces, while maintaining high performance for weeks of continuous operation. The lighting had to be easily integrated into the translucent polymer and maintain controlled optics to ensure uniformity from any angle along the promenade.

All of this influenced the selection of the appropriate module and defined the project specifications.

To meet these requirements, DEIN selected Optoga LED modules , a solution specifically designed for applications where reliability and light uniformity are essential.

The chosen model was the ADA 60 IoT 10W , equipped with:

– CRI 90 and CCT 3000K , providing warm, high-quality light.
– 28° collimating optics , which concentrate and distribute light evenly.

Stable and reliable performance, suitable for long-term installations .

Each face of the sculpture incorporates three Optoga LED modules , guaranteeing homogeneous and stable illumination across the entire Gaudí Star LED installation on Passeig de Gràcia. The polymer acts as a natural diffuser, achieving a clean and elegant glow.

This project demonstrates the importance of reliable LED solutions in unique applications. At LCE we supplied the Optoga LED modules used in the interior lighting of Gaudí's star created by DEIN, a discreet but key contribution in such an emblematic installation.

An iconic result and a look ahead

The Gaudí LED star has become one of the highlights of the Passeig de Gràcia Christmas lights display: it blends seamlessly into the tree's structure, shines with a warm and even light, and provides a direct nod to Gaudí that connects with Barcelona's cultural identity. Its presence not only serves as a visual attraction but also as an example of how LED lighting can bring high-impact urban installations to life.

At LCE, we continue to support manufacturers and companies seeking reliable LED solutions for unique projects, whether for outdoor spaces, decorative elements, or large-format applications. If you need technical support or are considering options for your upcoming designs, we would be delighted to help.
