A Luminous Experience That Transforms the City
From February 7 to 9, 2025, Barcelona will transform into a luminous canvas with the 14th edition of LLUM BCN, the prestigious Festival of Luminous Arts.
This annual event turns the streets and squares of Sant Martí into vibrant stages where art, technology, and creativity merge to offer unique experiences to residents and visitors.
An Internationally Renowned Festival
Organized by the Barcelona City Council, LLUM BCN has established itself as a European benchmark in the field of luminous arts. This edition features fifteen installations by international artists and works by students from seventeen university schools of design, art, and architecture in the city.
With over 30 installations illuminating the urban landscape, LLUM BCN 2025 stands as a festival where art, technology, and nature merge to open new avenues for reflection.
This event invites us to explore various thematic universes through proposals that, at first glance, seem to play with light, but in reality speak to the major challenges and realities of our time.
Technology and Transformation
In an era marked by innovation, works like Gènesi.IA by Joan Fontcuberta, Loop, Impulse, and Pendüllum fuse art and technology in surprising ways.
Gènesi.IA uses artificial intelligence to reinterpret Genesis, opening a space to reflect on how technology redefines our relationship with culture and spirituality. Impulse invites everyone to actively participate, creating a dynamic experience with motion sensors that reveal the interactive potential of art.
Meanwhile, Pendüllum plays with time and physics, challenging our perception of cycles and simultaneity, where art and science meet.
These works not only amaze us but also invite us to question the world we know and imagine new realities.
Nature, Cosmos, and Introspection
Through installations like Constel·lacions, which invites us to contemplate the vastness of the cosmos (through artificial star mapping), or Parc Nacional de Catalunya, which recreates the serenity of Catalonia’s natural landscapes, the festival connects us with the beauty and mystery of the universe, reminding us of the magnitude of the nature around us.
These proposals not only connect us with the vastness of the universe but also encourage introspection, prompting reflection on our own experiences, memories, and the footprint we leave on the world.
Astres reflects on the loss of the night sky in large cities, alluding to the disconnection from the cosmos we experience in daily life. Meanwhile, works like A faint retroactive light and Refugi invite a more personal introspection, exploring themes such as memory, the passage of time, and the importance of human relationships.
Environment, Climate Change, and Social Crisis
The festival offers deep reflection on the challenges of our time, where the environment and urban life intertwine.
Works like Rising and OKEANÓS immerse us in visual landscapes highlighting the urgency of climate change, from rising sea levels to the delicate balance between nature and technology. Meanwhile, proposals like Traffic Jam Zoom and Emergency Lights reflect the complexity of the urban environment, while Protesta encesa captures the energy of dissent, reminding us of the importance of citizen participation in times of crisis.
These installations invite us to reflect on how, both environmentally and socially, change is inevitable, but our capacity to respond is what truly makes the difference.
LCE: A Commitment to Innovation
As a Barcelona-based company committed to innovation and creativity, at LCE we feel deeply connected to the essence of LLUM BCN.
This festival not only beautifies our city but also encourages companies and citizens to explore new forms of expression and technology.
We are also delighted to see how these initiatives open doors to new generations of creators, giving space to emerging talent through the 17 installations developed by students. Promoting innovation and experimentation in luminous art is key to the future of the sector, and we believe providing these opportunities allows young designers and artists to explore new ways of expression and contribute their vision to the world of lighting.
We invite you to immerse yourself in this unique luminous experience and discover how light can transform our perception of urban space.
